Saavy Naturals leaves a defined list of common cosmetic ingredients out of every product we make. Our founders are two trained chefs who apply a food-grade sourcing standard to body care, which means reading every label and excluding anything that does not fit our clean, plant-based approach. Below is each ingredient we leave out, what it is, and why we choose to formulate without it across our entire catalog of body creams, washes, soaps, scrubs, butters, bath bombs, deodorant, and baby care.
Parabens are a family of synthetic preservatives (such as methylparaben and propylparaben) widely used to extend shelf life. We leave them out of every product and rely on a clean formulation approach instead, in keeping with our food-grade sourcing standard.
Sulfates such as sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate are strong foaming detergents. We formulate our washes and cleansers without them so our lathers come from gentler, plant-based sources.
Silicones are synthetic polymers used to create slip and a temporary smooth feel. We leave them out and rely on plant butters and oils like shea, cocoa, and jojoba for a naturally rich finish.
Phenoxyethanol is a synthetic preservative used as a paraben alternative. It is on our exclusion list across the whole catalog, consistent with our clean, plant-based formulation choices.
Propylene glycol is a synthetic humectant and carrier used to attract moisture and dissolve ingredients. We exclude it from every product and use plant-derived ingredients such as aloe and glycerin-rich botanicals instead.
PEGs are petroleum-derived compounds used as thickeners, softeners, and carriers. Because we focus on plant-based ingredients held to a food-grade standard, we leave PEGs out of our formulas.
Petroleum-derived ingredients like petrolatum and mineral oil are common occlusives. We choose plant butters and oils such as cocoa butter, coconut oil, and moringa oil in their place, and exclude petroleum across the catalog.
Artificial colors are synthetic dyes added purely for appearance. We leave them out and let the natural tones of our plant-based ingredients show through.
Synthetic or "artificial" fragrance blends can hide many undisclosed components. We scent our products with our own approach to fragrance built around signature profiles like Tahitian Vanilla, Bulgarian Rose, and Sweet Orange, and we leave artificial fragrance off our ingredient lists.
Phthalates are synthetic compounds sometimes used to carry fragrance or add flexibility. They are on our exclusion list, and we formulate without them across every product.
A food-grade sourcing standard only means something if you know what is left out as well as what goes in.
